Swissport, a leading global provider of ground and cargo handling services in aviation, will commence ground handling operations in the Saudi market within the coming two months, according to the president of the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA), Sulaiman Al Hamdan. Swissport was awarded Saudi’s second ground handling services license in 1H2015 and had announced plans to initiate ground handling services in the Kingdom’s three main international airports (Jeddah, Riyadh and Dammam), under its newly-formed subsidiary, Swissport Saudi Arabia. On another note, five global consortia are currently bidding to develop the new Ta’if International Airport, in addition to five global companies competing to operate the King Abdulaziz International Airport, following its refurbishment, according to Hamdan as quoted at the Saudi– US Business Opportunities Forum.
